ABOUT THE PRODUCER:

Nano lot : the clue is in the name. A nano lot is very much like a micro lot but even smaller. Coffee is sourced from a single, specially-tended plot of land in a farm (or, in the case of very small farms, sometimes from a group of producers living nearby). Cup quality is exceptionally high, resulting in distinctly flavours.

Roberto Ulloa is one of the most passionate farmers in terms of agronomical practices. His approach to coffee farming is all about soil treatment and making the root systems healthy enough to harness the maximum potential of the plant. His philosophy is that the quality is all made in the fields, and that old trees can contribute to more structure and complex flavours. 

La Divina Providencia farm was acquired 10 years ago by Roberto Ulloa, fourth generation coffee grower, who transformed the farm from an abandoned condition to one of the most productive farms in the Palo de Campana micro region, which is located on the highest slopes near the crater of the Santa Ana volcano. Since then, Roberto has rejuvenated the land and the trees, planting Kenya, Pacamara and Gesha as well as Red and Orange Bourbon. Besides the blissful terroir and climate, there are three main activities that have improved the quality of the farm considerably in the past꞉ the plants are enormously strengthened by the use of Huisil, an organic fertilizer. Roberto also implemented an adequate preventive disease control for Roya and Anthracnose (Dieback disease) together with an aggressive foliar nutritional program. Finally he uses biological compounds and products consisting of a variety of different species of bacteria and bacillus. These ensure an adequate control of harmful insect larvea and nematodes.
